Times Square Alliance partnered with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Cuban Artist Fund to present a public video art installation by Cuban artist Leslie Sardiñas. The exhibition included a video art installation on the billboards of Times Square as well as a selection of drawings by the artist. Both the video and the drawings were on view at the Times Square Visitor Center May 4 - 7, 2012.Watching You! was a 30-second animation of a pair of eyes looking down onto Times Square. Created from over 600 drawings made by the artist himself, Watching You! marked the first time that the artist exhibited animated works in the public realm. The artist cleverly inverted the relationship of the observer to that of the observed. In this work, Sardiñas pays tribute to the enigmatic character Cheshire from Alice in Wonderland, whose eyes hypnotize and enchant the viewers. This project is presented in collaboration with the Cuban Artists Fund.
