As the External Affairs Fellow, I learned quickly that what happens in Times Square does not go unnoticed, for better or for worse. From headlines praising the square for its dynamic public programming to headlines denouncing it for its unruly costumed characters, Times Square is constantly in the spotlight. The level of exposure only reiterates the neighborhood’s importance to the City of New York. Although the job itself was fulfilling, nothing was more rewarding than working with staff that cared so deeply about the area’s history, ensuring the neighborhood’s future would continue to be in tune with its past."

"As part of the Operations team, I was able to immerse myself in public space operation, from creative activations and advertisements to helping maintain day-to-day functions of the busiest public space in the world. I managed event set up, communicated with local restaurant owners and businesses like UrbanSpace, designed public spaces, and was on the ground interacting with our Sanitation and Public Safety Officers - every day was truly something different, fostering an invigorating and addicting experiential learning environment. Some of my favorite memories are not just during these big events, but are the mundane moments with the Operations team, some of the kindest and most passionate people I’ve ever met."

"Out of all the internship experiences I had throughout college, my time spent at the Times Square Alliance as an Operations Fellow was by far the most fulfilling and enjoyable one of them all. Shortly after arriving, everyone in the division made me feel welcome, like I was an integral part of the team. I learned so much from my peers, and enjoyed the spontaneity and diversity within the day to day operations of the work. The Alliance gave me the professional tools to succeed in other internship experiences, later down the line.
