Albert Josue Peguero is a South Bronx-based multimedia sculptor. A first-generation college graduate, Peguero obtained his BFA in Sculpture at Purchase College (SUNY) in 2020. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, Peguero’s work tackles conversations around the shared experiences of working class immigrants in the United States from a queer immigrant perspective. Through abstract representations of the everyday – including architecture, household items, sounds, and smells - Peguero aims to create spaces that focus on “un-closeting” oppressive systematic procedures. Recent achievements include the Outstanding Senior Award for Sculpture at SUNY, and participation in the Liberty Science Museum’s first Artist-in-Residence program.
