Storming Times SquareSeptember 1, 2014 - September 30, 2014Daniel CanogarTimes Square Advertising Coalition, bitforms galleryUsing methods of public intervention and video installation, Storming Times Square was born from a desire to have viewers project themselves, literally and metaphorically, onto their immediate environments. In July 2014, visitors to Times Square were filmed crawling horizontally on a green screen. In September, the resulting film was projected vertically on the buildings of Times Square, giving the illusion that the participants were scaling the buildings. This project was a first in the history of Midnight Moment to use a live action performance to create an artwork for the screens.Storming Times Square premiered on the Times Square billboards on September 1st, 2014 and was screened every night in September on 15 signs and 45 screens. The project was presented in partnership with bitforms gallery and supported by AC/E and Spain Culture New York/Consulate General of Spain, member of the network Spain Arts & Culture.Photographs by Ka-Man Tse for @TSqArts.
