Who doesn’t need a clean slate from time to time?
Erase your mistakes from this past year at Good Riddance Day, our annual event where we say goodbye to what frustrated us and usher in a new start for the new year. Tell us what you’re leaving behind and then you and Jonathan Bennett will wipe it away, symbolizing your fresh start in 2025.
Good Riddance Day is inspired by a Latin American tradition in which New Year’s revelers stuffed dolls with objects representing bad memories before setting them on fire. The annual event will take place on December 28, 2024 from 12–1pm on the Broadway plaza between 43rd and 44th streets. Join us in saying “Good riddance!” to any unpleasant, unhappy, and downright unwanted memories from 2024. During the event, you'll write what you're leaving in the past on our official Good Riddance Day chalkboards then erase it – symbolically leaving it in the past and making room for the positive to come in 2025.
Register in advance, tell us what you’re saying goodbye to, and join us in person at #GoodRiddanceDay for the chance to win a $100 Times Square Gift Card. Must be present to win on December 28.
Please note: Good Riddance Day is a symbolic event for disposing of singular memories or ideas on our official Good Riddance Day forms that will be provided at the event. It is not a shredding, burning, or disposal event, and we will not accommodate requests to securely dispose of items.
Your wishes will be added to the confetti that flutters down in the heart of Times Square on New Year's Eve! Each year, people from around the planet include their wishes for the new year on pieces of official Times Square New Year's Eve confetti, either digitally or in person.
