A number of public and private incentives are offered by both the local and federal government to businesses who seek to lower energy costs and consumption.

 


NYSERDA

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority is a great resource for tenants and property owners looking for information on incentives offered by the State for energy efficient improvements.

Commercial & Industrial

NYSERDA offers a number of programs to assist commercial and industrial businesses in the implementation of energy efficient services and operations for both new construction and existing buildings.  These programs include:  

  • Energy Audits and Technical Assistance regarding energy efficient systems and technology
  • Low interest financing through the NY Energy $mart Loan Fund
  • Information and incentives regarding solar/wind/ and other renewable energy sources as well as HVAC and Lighting systems.

Residential

Through its residential program NYSERDA offers:

  • Energy efficiency analysis of both single and multi-family residential buildings.
  • Low interest financing for energy efficient improvements.
  • Education on Energy Efficient Technologies and Products.
  • A database of local energy star contractors.
  • Energy efficient service training to local contractors.

NYC SBS

New York City's Department of Small Business Services offers local businesses an Energy Cost Savings Program.  This program allows businesses making capital improvements to their building to reduce electric expenses up to 45% and gas expenses up to 35% over the course of 12 years.  Building improvements must be approved through the Industrial Commercial Abatement Program (ICAP), or the business must be a Industrial Development Agency (IDA) applicant.


Con Edison

Con Edison in conjunction with the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is currently administering a number of electric load-reduction programs to manage energy usage during times of peak demand.  Businesses which participate this program will experience reduced energy costs in return for reduced energy consumption during peak periods.  Visit the Con Edison site to get more information on this program and others.


Con Edison Solutions

ConEdison Solutions is a subsidiary of ConEdison, Inc which offers alternative energy procurement and management services to business, residential and government customers.  Through the Electric Commodity program ConEdison Solutions is able to offer competitive energy pricing contracts often below standard market prices. 

  • Making ConEdison Solutions your supplier of choice in the territories where electricity is distributed by Con Edison Company of New York reduces your sales tax, qualifies you for a discount on the distribution portion of your energy bill, and gives you access to innovative pricing programs.
  • Businesses in the Times Square District qualify for ConEd Solutions Electric Load Reduction incentives for any improvements made to increase energy efficiency.  They also qualify for free site evaluations by the ConEd Solutions technicians.  These incentives are often greater than those offered through the comparative NYSERDA program. 
  • ConEd Solutions also has the ability to broker the purchase of non-polluting wind power to commercial, industrial and institutional facilities in NYC.

U.S. Department of Energy

The U.S. Department of Energy is a great resource for information on renewable energy sources as well as techniques for saving energy through efficient building design and appliances.  

Tax Incentives

Tax incentives are available for homeowners and businesses that purchase and install energy-efficient equipment or make energy efficiency improvements to existing or new homes and buildings.
