Celebrate L’Estate di San Martino with traditional Vino Novello e Castagne.
NEW YORK (November 9, 2012) – In celebration of L’Estate di San Martino, Trattoria Dopo Teatro in Times Square will be offering free roasted chestnuts and a glass of Vino Novello (the first tasting of the new wine). This seasonal, traditional pairing will be available Thursday, November 15th through Wednesday, November 21st, between 5-8 p.m. to customers at the restaurant’s bar.
Similar to “Indian Summer,” L’Estate di San Martino occurs after the first frost and usually brings a week or two of warmer weather before the winter cold arrives. It is said that L’Estate di San Martino is based on the legend of Saint Martin who tore his cloak in two to cover a poor, cold beggar. As a reward for his kindness, the Lord sent the milder temperatures. During this time, regional farmers harvest the last of their crops and celebrate the break in the weather.
