Better Public Spaces: Enhancing the Pedestrian Experience
Public spaces can be boisterous or serene, large or small, but are all created for the use and enjoyment of the public. In Times Square, they represent not only an ever-changing theatre set for exhibiting creativity, but also usable spaces for pedestrians. The Alliance's public space programs are aimed at improving the street level experience, reducing pedestrian congestion, encouraging high quality private-sector design, and exhibiting exciting temporary public art - reinforcing Times Square's status as the Crossroads of the World.

The Alliance has partnered with the Theatre Development Fund, the Coalition for Father Duffy, and the City to initiate the physical redesign of Duffy Square. Located in the heart of Times Square and home to the popular TKTS booth, the plaza features a structure of illuminated glass steps that shine as neighborhood icon and serve as a public gathering place. |
