People's Portrait Project

The Times Square Alliance, the Parsons School of Design and Reuters North American present “Peoples’ Portrait”, a project conceived by media artist Zhang Ga, using the massive video and data display screen at Reuter’s Times Square Headquarters.
About the Project
The artist has set up several kiosks - one in the Times Square Information Center; and in Singapore, Australia, Austria and The Netherlands. Each kiosk is equipped with a camera to capture your self-portrait, which will be displayed on the world’s largest digital display at Reuters headquarters and other display screens in cities across the world. In New York, the portraits can be seen for twelve minutes of every hour, 6 a.m. – 2 a.m. through December 31st .
“Peoples’ Portrait” utilizes the Internet as the underlying mechanism to create a global portrait of people, rendered in real time and displayed instantly and simultaneously on various museum websites and massive video walls often seen in cosmopolitan urban centers such as Times Square in New York City and other countries. A viewer in New York City can watch as a picture of himself/herself is displayed, followed closely by portraits of other viewers from Singapore and Brisbane.
