Develpment Coordinator

Times Square Alliance/Times Square Arts is seeking a full-time Development coordinator with exceptional research and writing skills.The Development Coordinator will report to the Director of Partnerships & Marketing and will work closely with the Director of Public Art and other departments, as needed. The Development Coordinator will be responsible for soliciting and securing foundation and government support with the goal of maximizing contributed income for Times Square Arts and Aliance programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researching Potential funders and wring grant proposals

  • Creating and managing a foundation and government grants calendar.

  • Identifying new prospects and researching and cultivating of new funders

  • Project monthly and yearly institutional revenue goals and track progress toward reaching those goals

  • Maintain current records in database (Salesforce) and in paper files; grant tracking and reporting per foundation requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and participate as an active member of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree ; experience in development positions focused on foundation and government activities a plus.

  • Candidate must be an exceptional writer and verbal communicator, a quick learner, a creative thinker, a team player, detail oriented and deadline sensitive

  • Ability to interact in an effective, tactful and professional manner with funders, donors, board members and staff

  • A high degree of computer proficiency with capacity for database management.

Policy & Research Analyst

The Times Square Alliance seeks exceptional candidates for its Policy & Research Analyst position.The Analyst will work with the Policy, Planning & Design team in tracking and summarizing economic indicators and quality of life data and assisting in the Alliance’s work to shape the City’s capital reconstruction of Times Square in the coming years.

The position reports to the Vice President of Policy, Planning, and Design.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research & Analysis

The Policy & Research Analyst will be responsible for collecting and analyzing an array of economic and quality of life data, which directly informs the organization’s policy and program choices. This data will be distributed in monthly reports, Board of Directors reports, requests from news media, packets for new businesses and will also be used to support the needs of PPD projects. Additionally, the Analyst may be responsible for supervising consultant contracts for short-term research projects, including economic studies and constituent satisfaction surveys. Specific ongoing tasks include:

  • Management and expansion of an extensive automated pedestrian camera system.
  • Commercial real estate research, monitoring local market conditions and leasing activity.
  • Tourism research, measuring performance of Broadway theaters and area hotels.
  • Quality of life research, tracking crime incidents and sanitation data.

Capital Projects & Public Space

As part of the ongoing revitalization of Times Square, the Alliance is working with the City of New York as a co-client for the capital reconstruction of the Times Square Bowtie, upgrading and expanding the quality and functionality of Times Square’s public spaces. In addition, the Alliance is moving forward with a smaller wayfinding capital project aimed at Restaurant Row. The Policy & Research Analyst will support the Vice President of Policy, Planning & Design on capital projects and other public space initiatives.

Design & Publications

The Policy & Research Analyst will be responsible for producing some creative material that informs the Alliance’s constituents and community partners of its programs, projects, and data collection, while representing the Alliance’s brand and commitment to quality design. Specific tasks include:

  • Generating maps of place-specific data in the district, such as pedestrian counts, crime, incidents, retail vacancies, or new developments
  • Generating charts and graphs of data collected regularly, and supporting production of the organization’s monthly reports and quarterly board meeting materials with economic indicator data and graphs.

SKILLS:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is essential. Experience with Adobe Illustrator and other programs in the Creative Suite is preferred. Experience with GIS is a plus.

The Policy and Research Analyst should possess at least a bachelor’s degree and excellent communication, writing and analytical skills.

Controller

The Times Square Alliance, one of the country’s most high-profile business improvement districts, seeks a Controller to perform the accounting and bookkeeping activities associated with the recording and tracking of the Alliance’s operating budget.

Specific duties include:

  • Maintain and update the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll records (i.e. pay all bills, prepare deposits, record income, monthly journal entries, etc.).
  • Invoice Alliance’s partners/customers and follow up on collections
  • Oversees the payroll system with the Payroll/Finance Associate and HR team; reviews bi-weekly payroll submission.
  • Interacts with staff on an ongoing basis regarding budgetary, financial, accounting and procedural issues and questions.
  • Reconciles bank statements, adjusts discrepancies and communicates with bank personnel as necessary.
  • Monitors existing cash balances and pending cash requirements daily and initiate the transfer process between various accounts.
  • Generates monthly financial statements and analysis for CFO’s review.
  • Provides monthly financial reports to Department Heads.
  • Prepares quarterly Plaza financial report for submission to DOT and Finance committee co-chairs for CFO’s review.
  • Handles both internal and external requests for certificates of insurance.
  • Provides auditors with documentation as required for annual audit and tax returns. Reviews the drafts of the audited financial statements and tax returns with CFO.
  • Completes surveys and other reporting as required.
  • Assists CFO with establishing, recording and maintaining finance processes, protocols and policies, including procurement and compliance with third party contracts/agreements.
  • Assists CFO with annual budgeting process and annual assessment rolls.

This position reports to the CFO and supervises one employee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in finance or accounting including budgeting, payroll, analysis, A/P and A/R
  • Degree in finance, business or accounting
  • Microsoft office suite and accounting software experience
  • Must be detailed oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks as well as problem solve
  • Must have excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience with non-profits and/or New York City agencies a plus
